Māris Gailis

Māris Gailis ( born July 9, 1951 in Riga ) is a Latvian politician and entrepreneur.

In the summer of 1994 broke out in the hitherto Valdis Birkavs led minority government of the dispute over the agricultural and economic policy. Latvijas Zemnieku Savieniba, the Latvian Farmers' Union, left the government coalition, Birkavs resigned. New Prime Minister was Māris Gailis up to the 1995 elections, a coalition of his own party Latvijas cels ( Latvian Way ) and the Tautsaimnieku Politiskā apvieniba led ( Political Association of Economists ) and independent ministers.

After his retirement from active politics Gailis held various positions in the economy; as he was inter alia Chairman of the Board at the energy company Latvijas Gāze. Most recently, he was involved with his GmbH SIA Māris Gailis to develop a marina and exclusive residential project of the Riga Daugavainsel Ķīpsala. In addition, Gailis committed together with his wife, the architect Zaiga Gaile, for the preservation of traditional wooden houses in the capital.
