Marist Brothers

The Marist Brothers ( Fratres Maristae Scholarum, Religious Symbol: FMS) are a religious community with approximately 4,300 members in 78 countries.

The aim of the Order is the Education and taught to young people in all forms of educational work. The use of marginal groups and arms occurs increasingly in the focus of the work.

Today, the Order runs 870 schools worldwide, particularly in Africa (focus on Kenya). Since 2009, Father Emili Turú Rofes, the incumbent since 2001 Seán Sammon replaced Dominic, the Superior General of the Order.

The Order was founded by Frenchman Marcellin Champagnat on January 2, 1817 with the aim of religious education (information ) of young people in La Valla - en-Gier (Loire, France). In addition to the school brothers belong to the family of the Marist Marist Sisters, the Marist Fathers, the Maristenmissionsschwestern and Maristenlaien. 1914, the Marist Brothers established their first office in Germany Recklinghausen.

Germany

In Germany, the Marist schools have especially in southern Germany, in Cham ( Oberpfalz), Furth ( Lower Bavaria ) and Mindelheim ( Unterallgäu ). The latter school, the so-called Maristenkolleg, one of the largest schools of the Marist Brothers in the world. It consists of a gymnasium with three, and a junior high school with two branches. Also in Recklinghausen (North Rhine -Westphalia ) is a junior high school is maintained. The gymnasium in Furth was adopted by the School Foundation of the Diocese of Regensburg, 2007. Since 2002 there is an international community in Dessau ( Saxony- Anhalt), which cares for people on the margins of society ( prison, immigrants, hospital ) as well as local youth work. The German headquarters is in Furth bei Landshut. The official name since 2003, " Institute of the Marist Brothers FMS Germany the province of West-Central Europe " ( corporation governed by public law ).
