Marjayoun

Marj Uyun (Arabic مرج عيون Marj ʿ Uyūn, locally Marz ʿ Ayun, also Marj ' Ayoun, Marjuyun, Marjeyoun or Marja'uyun ) is a city in Lebanon and the seat of the homonymous district in southern Lebanon. The name means spring meadow.

The city has a predominantly Christian, Greek Orthodox population; the majority of the population in the surrounding hills is Muslim. Marjajoun has about 3,000 inhabitants. The South Lebanon Army, a militia that was allied during the war in Lebanon in 1982 with Israel, had here to the Israeli withdrawal in 2000 their headquarters. In the 2006 Lebanon War, the town was briefly occupied by Israeli troops.
