Mark 54 MAKO Lightweight Torpedo

A Mark -54 lightweight torpedo aboard the USS Ross ( DDG -71)

Rd. 1 million U.S. dollars

The Mark -54 torpedo MAKO is from a modern American development of a lightweight torpedoes for anti-submarine defense of ships, helicopters and airplanes.

In this weapon the target acquisition and data processing units of the Mark -50 torpedoes be combined with the drive of the Mark -46 lightweight torpedoes to obtain improved capabilities for the fight against silent conventionally powered submarines in shallow waters.

Development began in 2000, first 2003 copies were in the service of the U.S. Navy. The serial production began with a first edition of 24 pieces in 2004.

Lockheed Martin has won a tender to adjust the in-house development " Longshot ® Wing Adapter Kit " (a GPS - steered Lenkkit for various types of air -to-ground weapons ) to the Mark 54, so that a naval reconnaissance before the attack on a submarine not only leave contact the usual patrol altitude of about 9100 meters and the attack from 90 to 300 meters above sea level needs to fly, but a torpedo from the patrol altitude and from a greater distance (stand- off) can use. This avoids delays in the attack.
