Mark Burton (footballer)

Mark Burton ( born May 18, 1974 in Wellington ) is a former New Zealand football player who played for his time in Germany and in his home country, as well as in the New Zealand national team.

Career

In Germany, Burton began his career with the reserve team of Werder Bremen in the Regionalliga Nord, where he was active until 1995. For the 1995/1996 season he moved to VfL Osnabrück and played there until 1998 before he was transferred to Kickers Emden. After only one year in Emden, he finally moved to its final station in Germany: One year Burton played for VfB Lübeck, before moving in 2000 to his home to the Football Kingz, where he was active until 2004.

National

For the New Zealand national Burton denied the OFC Nations Cup in 1998 and 2002, in 1998 he scored against Australia the decisive winning goal to win the title. He also played in the Confederations Cup 1999 in Mexico and 2003 in France for his country.
