Mark Carney

Mark Joseph Carney ( born March 16, 1965 in Fort Smith ) is a Canadian bank manager and as Governor of the Bank of England, the first foreigner to hold the post in the 319- year history of the British Central Bank. He is also Chairman of the Financial Stability Board, an institution of the G20, with headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. Carney was known by the defense of the financial crisis from 2007, which was Canada compared to other countries without any major negative consequences. Carney was named for his actions by the Financial Times and Time magazine for global Topmann the financial industry.

Life

Childhood and education

Mark Carney was born in Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories. His father Bob was a school director, and later Professor of Teaching at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. This meant that the family had to move and Mark Carney age of six. Carney has an older brother Sean, a younger brother Brian and a sister, Brena. Carney's mother was an elementary school teacher before she became pregnant. Carney and his two brothers were studying at Harvard University. Carney completed his studies at Harvard with a Bachelor in Economics in 1988. Later he went to Nuffield College, Oxford, where he received his master's degree in economics in 1993 and his doctorate in economics in 1995.

Career

Carney began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked thirteen years. He worked for the company in the branches in London, Tokyo, New York and Toronto. He was Vice- Chairman, Department of Country Risk, Executive Director of Emerging Debt Capital Markets and Managing Director in Investment Banking.

Between 2004 and 2007 he was a Senior Associate Deputy Minister and G7 Deputy Director of the Department of Finance Canada. There he was employed under Jim Flaherty and Ralph Goodale.

From 2008 to 2013 he led the business of the Bank of Canada. For his handling of the financial crisis in 2008, he was praised. On 3 June 2013, was replaced with the Canadian Bank of Stephen Poloz.

Effective 1 July 2013 he was Governor of the Bank of England, succeeding Sir Mervyn Allister King.

Private life

He is married to Diana Carney, has four daughters and lives in Ottawa.
