Mark D. Siljander

Mark Deli Siljander ( born June 11, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois ) is a former American politician. Between 1981 and 1987 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Mark Siljander attended the public schools of his home, including the Oak Park - River Forest High School, where he graduated in 1969. Then he studied until 1973 at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He then began working in the real estate industry.

Politically, Siljander joined the Republican Party. In 1980 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Detroit, was nominated on the Ronald Reagan as a presidential candidate. Between 1977 and 1981, Siljander sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Michigan. Following the resignation of Congressman David Stockman, he was at the due election for the fourth seat of Michigan as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on April 21, 1981. After two re- elections he could remain until January 3, 1987 at the Congress. In 1986, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

In the years 1987 and 1988 was Mark Siljander one of the American delegates at the UN General Assembly. In 1992 he applied unsuccessfully to make his return to the Congress. In addition, he ran an import and export company and was for a time as a radio commentator.

In the 2000s, Siljander came into conflict with the law: On January 16, 2008, against him, among other things because of money laundering, conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges brought. Specifically, he had, without registering as a lobbyist, tried on behalf of the Sudan -based Islamic American Relief Agency ( IARA ) to have this deleted from the list of sponsors of international terrorism. On July 7, 2010, he pleaded guilty. He was also involved in opaque remittances to Pakistan. He founded with Trac5 an organization which is staffed closely linked to The Family and aims to establish, citing the role of Jesus in both the Bible and the Koran, a bridge between Islam and Christianity. 2011 Siljander was sentenced to one year in prison.
