Mark Eyskens

Mark Maria Frans Eyskens listen? / I ( born April 29, 1933, lions) is an economist and a Belgian politician. From April 6 to December 17, 1981, he was Prime Minister of Belgium.

Mark Eyskens is the son of Gaston Eyskens, who was also Prime Minister of Belgium. He is a member of the CD & V.

Eyskens completed his studies at the Catholic University of Leuven from multiple diplomas, including in the field of philosophy. At the Catholic University of Louvain, he became also a doctorate of laws, regulations and economics. In 1967 he was appointed professor of economics.

1962 began his political career as a consultant by Treasury André Dequae. In 1976 he was Minister of the CVP in the government under Leo Tindemans. From 1976 to 1992 he was a member of thirteen governments, such as finance and foreign minister.

In April 1981, he became Prime Minister of a coalition government between the Christian Democrats and the Socialists. On September 21, the government fell because of a dispute over the financing of the Walloon steel industry. In the early elections on November 8, 1981 were due to a government initiative Eyskens for the first time citizens elect the ages of 18 and 21 years. However Eyskens was replaced as a result of these elections on December 17 by his predecessor as Prime Minister Wilfried Martens.

From 1977 to 1995 Eyskens was a member of the circle lions. Since 1992 he is member of the European Parliament and of the Western European Union conference. From 1992 to November 1998, he was teaching economics. Since 18 November 1998 he has been Minister of State.
