Mark Hartigan

Mark Hartigan (born 15 October 1977 in Fort St. John, British Columbia ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who plays for Linköpings HC in the Elitserien since December 2011.

Career

Mark Hartigan began his career in 1996 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Weyburn Red Wings. There he performed well and won with the team twice the championship of the SJHL, but was selected by any NHL team in the NHL Entry Draft. In 1999, he went to the St. Cloud State University and played for their hockey team. There he continued to develop and played his best season 2001/ 02 when he scored 37 goals in 42 games and 38 prepared. Hartigan was awarded player of the year the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and nominated for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the best college players.

At the end of the season it took the Atlanta Thrashers of the NHL under contract and he came in the same season two appearances. The season 2002/ 03 he graduated to a large extent in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves, the farm team of the Thrashers, but was used 23 times in the NHL and scored five goals. His contract was not renewed and he joined in the summer of 2003 on the Columbus Blue Jackets. But even there he could not prevail in the NHL squad, came in three season to just 48 games and spent most of his time with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL, where he presented himself as a solid striker.

In January 2007 he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks and came to six inserts in the regular season and a playoff use on the way to the Stanley Cup victory.

In July 2007, the Detroit Red Wings took him under contract, but he could not prevail in autumn in training camp and played in the 2007/ 08 season for the time being the farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins. In the AHL Hartigan scored for the Griffins in 48 games 23 times and was the second best scorer of the team. In addition there were 19 assists. Through the years, he took his leave for the NHL squad and was taken in February 2008 on the Red Wings, as several strikers failed due to an injury. Hartigan came mainly in the fourth forward line to use and also belonged to the tribe formation when the team started in the playoffs. But after four games, he was replaced by Darren Helm and the Red Wings finally won the Stanley Cup without Hartigan.

After his contract was not renewed in Detroit, Hartigan moved in summer 2008 to Dinamo Riga in the KHL. A year later he moved within the league to HK CSKA Moscow. In June 2010, the attackers returned again to Dinamo Riga.

In summer 2011, Hartigan signed a one-year contract with the Rapperswil -Jona Lakers of the National League A. In December of the same year was disbanded his contract after he stayed recently as supernumerary quota player without use. A few days later, he was obliged by Linköpings HC.
