Mark Hertling

Mark Phillip Hertling ( born September 29, 1953 in St. Louis) is a U.S. Lieutenant General decommissioned.

Life

In service since before 1975, Hertling reached the rank of general in 2003. He commanded the 1st Armored Division stationed in Germany, was later 2007-2009 commander of the 28,000 -strong task force in northern Iraq, was from 2009 to 2011 deputy general for basic training the Army, responsible for training at 27 locations, and finally on March 25, 2011 to November 4, 2012 commander of the United States Army Europe and Seventh Army. He accompanied the relocation of many units to Wiesbaden.

He left the Army in December 2012. As Commanding General of the United States Army Europe Donald M. Campbell followed him.
