Mark Johnson (producer)

Mark Johnson (* December 27 1945 in Maryland ) is an American film producer.

Life

Mark Johnson, his brother David and her sister grew after the divorce of her parents, Emory Johnson and Dorothy King, in the early 1950s with her mother and lived from 1953 in Spain. As a child, Johnson was in American and British films that were shot in Spain, mostly present as an extra in supporting roles. After he had completed compulsory school in Spain, Johnson moved back to the U.S. in 1964 and began studying film at the University of Virginia.

1974 Johnson settled down in New York City, where his career began as a production assistant for individual commercials. Three years later, in 1977, he made his reputation in Hollywood, where he was an assistant director in charge of the production of Escape from Alcatraz, among others, in 1979. After he had met in 1977 director Barry Levinson, this took him under contract and signed him in 1982 as executive producer for his film American Diner. Johnson was in the 1980s as a regular producer Barry Levinson, who in 1988 produced Rain Man, and it was in 1989 awarded the Academy Award for Best Picture. 1992 Johnson was nominated for Bugsy again for an Academy Award, again for a Barry Levinson film.

Johnson produced for different studios. So took him from 1991 to 1996 Baltimore Pictures under contract, and then moved to DreamWorks, where he produced until 1998. Today, Johnson is a producer at Walden Media and records as responsible among other things for the production of the Chronicles of Narnia.

Mark Johnson is married and has two children with his wife Leslie.

Since 2006 he is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
