Mark Lilla

Mark Lilla ( born 1956 in Detroit ) is an American economic and political scientist and publicist. Since 2007 he is professor of the history of ideas at Columbia University, New York City.

Life

Lilla studied economics and political science and worked as a publicist. From 1980 to 1984 he was editor of the neoconservative quarterly journal " The Public Interest ." He then taught at Harvard University. Lilla is mainly concerned with the political and religious history of ideas of the Western world. Since 2007 he is Professor of Humanities at Columbia University.

Works

Lilla wrote several works on Isaiah Berlin and Giambattista Vico. He also authored the study " The Reckless Mind: Intellectuals and Politics " and he published "The Stillborn God: Religion, Politics, and the Modern West " at Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. He regularly writes essays and reviews for The New York. Review of Books.
