Mark Peploe

Mark Peploe (* 1943 in Kenya ) is a British director and screenwriter, among other things, along with director Bernardo Bertolucci for the screenplay for The Last Emperor (1987 ) won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay, the David di Donatello for Best Screenplay as well as the Golden Globe Award won for Best screenplay.

Life

Peploe began his career as a screenwriter in the film industry in 1972 with The Pied Piper of Hamelin ( The Pied Piper ) and wrote until 1996 the scripts and templates for ten films. The Michelangelo Antonioni, who was the lover of Peploes sister Clare Peploe in the 1960s, turned movie Profession: reporter (1975 ) was based on his story FatalExit.

In 1985, he staged as a director and screenwriter short film Samson and Delilah with Bernard Hill, Lindsay Duncan and Vicki Masson and was nominated for this purpose for the British Academy Film Awards ( BAFTA Film Award ) for Best Short Film.

He had his greatest success with the screenplay for the staged by Bernardo Bertolucci with John Lone, Joan Chen and Peter O'Toole film The Last Emperor: For this purpose, he and Bertolucci at the Oscar ceremony 1988 Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and the David di Donatello for best screenplay as well as additionally with Enzo Ungari the Golden Globe Award for Best screenplay. In addition, he and Bertolucci was nominated for the award of the Writers Guild of America (WGA Award) for Best Screenplay.

For directed the incurred after the novel by Joseph Conrad film Victory ( 1996) with Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill and Irène Jacob, he was nominated at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia- San Sebastián for the Golden Shell. For this film, he was also the author of the script.
