Mark Smith (ice hockey)

Mark Christopher Smith ( born October 24, 1977 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. Most recently, he played for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League on the position of the center, but since July 2008, a so-called unrestricted free agent. Smith is known in the NHL primarily for his ever-changing hair color.

In addition to his career as a hockey player, he is a passionate musician and member of the band The Vinyl Trees, which he supports with his salary, and since 2004 owner of the label Lunar Records.

Career

Smith played in his youth time in the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. After being selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1997 in the ninth and final round at 219 instead of the San Jose Sharks, he moved to the end of the 1997/98 season, when he had failed with the Hurricanes early in the playoffs, the Kentucky Thoroughblades, the former farm team of the San Jose Sharks, in order to assist them in the American Hockey League there in the playoffs. It was followed by two complete seasons with the Thorughblades before he was ordered during the 2000/ 01 season to San Jose. There, Smith impressed with his fast and use packed game. During the NHL lockout in 2004 /05, the Canadians played in the ECHL, but returned the following year to the San Jose Sharks, where he set up Karrierebestmarken in the categories of games, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes. In the 2006/07 season Smith was injured only half of the season will contest and his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2007. In September, he received a sample contract with the New York Rangers, but could not prevail in training camp. A little later, he signed a contract with the Calgary Flames
