Mark Thatcher
Mark Thatcher, 2nd Baronet of Scotney ( born August 15, 1953) is a British businessman and race car driver.
Like his sister Carol ( born August 15, 1953) was born as a twin child of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her husband Denis Thatcher Mark Thatcher.
In 1995 he moved with his family to South Africa. He was the involvement in a coup attempt by the military service Sandline International in Equatorial Guinea accused of what he has now admitted. Monaco has declared him persona non grata because of that. In the summer of 2004, he was arrested in South Africa and placed under house arrest. He was sentenced to a suspended sentence of four years and a fine. At times threatened even the death penalty.
Thatcher was also active as a "gentleman's " in international motorsport. So he was in the years 1980 and 1981 in the 24- hour race at Le Mans at the start. In 1982 he took part with his co-driver Anne -Charlotte Verney at the Paris-Dakar Rally. During the rally, he was, Verney and an accompanying mechanic they lost five days in the desert before they were discovered by a search plane of the Algerian Air Force.
