Mark Wallinger

Mark Wallinger ( born 1959 in Chigwell, Essex ) is a British artist who is expected to the group of Young British Artists ( YBA ). His most famous work is State Britain (2007 ), in which he reconstructed an originally erected in front of Westminster protest installation against the Iraq war and was in a solo exhibition at the Tate Britain. He was 1995 and 2007 nominated for the Turner Prize, which he received in 2007.

Life and work

Mark Wallinger was born in 1959 in Chigwell in Essex. After visiting the West Hatch High School in Chigwell, he studied art, first at the Chelsea School of Art and then at Goldsmiths College, where he also worked as a tutor since 1986.

He had a number of exhibitions in the 1980s and presented his work in 1993 in the second group exhibition of the Young British Artists in the gallery of Charles Saatchi from. He was represented in 1997 in the group exhibition Sensation, which is also attributed to the YBA- environment.

In the Tate Liverpool a retrospective of his work was shown under the title "Credo " in 2000. For the Biennale, he designed the British Pavilion in 2001 with the work " Ecco Homo". In 2007 he was represented at the Munster sculpture project with the " zone ".

In December 2007, Wallinger was awarded the most important British art award the Turner Prize. His work State Britain was of historical significance, it was in the jury.
