Mark Whitfield

Mark Whitfield ( born October 6, 1966 in Syosset, New York) is an American guitarist of the hard bop and soul-jazz.

Life and work

Mark Whitfield graduated in 1987 his studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he had studied guitar, composition and arrangement. His professional career began in the bands of Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner; He also worked with Art Blakey, Jack McDuff, Betty Carter, Carmen McRae, Dianne Reeves, Joe Williams, Terence Blanchard, Stanley Turrentine and Clark Terry.

In September 1990, was released by Warner Brothers Records released his first solo album "The Marksman ", followed by two more albums for Warner Brothers and five for the Verve label, and two for Herbie Hancock Label Transparent Music.
