Mark Wright (footballer born 1963)

Mark Wright ( born August 1, 1963 in Dorchester, Oxfordshire ) is an English football coach and former football player.

Playing career

Wright began his career at Oxford United. In just a few games, he recommended himself for Southampton FC, in 1982, took him under contract. There he played five years before moving to Derby County in 1987.

Both clubs Wright proved to be stable defender and was appointed to the English national team. So, he took part in the 1990 World Cup in Italy, after a broken leg had prevented the participation in the World Cup 1986.

After the descent Derby County 1991 Wright wanted to continue to play first class and went for 2.5 million pounds for Liverpool FC. There he became a regular player and won the FA Cup, respectively, and the League Cup once. From 1991 to 1993 he was captain of Liverpool FC. In 1998 he finished his playing career at the age of 35 years.

Coaching career

After the FC Southport in the Nationwide Conference, he was first stint, Wright took in June 2001 at his first engagement in the Football League when he took over the then fourth division Oxford United. In December 2001, he was fired after an alleged racist insult.

However, he quickly found a new job when he took over the relegation Chester City in the Nationwide Conference. The league succeeded and one skilled in the following year for the promotion playoffs, but failed to Doncaster Rovers. 2002/ 03 ended Chester City as the league champion and thus rose to directly in the Football League Two. However, Wright finished his commitment shortly before the start of the new season, reportedly because of a relationship with the wife of a player.

As Peterborough United Wright committed, which was considered a last chance to save his career. While there, he managed the club to put forward on 25 January 2006 he was however suspended after an internal investigation by his office and a week later dismissed when he failed to appear at a hearing before the Board. Again, to have fallen a racist remark. Wright denies this, but a court case to the case is pending.

A month later, Wright was reinstated at Chester City, first with a current contract until the summer of 2006. He saved the club from relegation and got a new two-year contract. Shortly before the end of the 2006/07 season but was dismissed for lack of success.

In November 2008, Wright received a new contract with Chester City.
