Mark Zakharov

Mark Anatoljevich Sakharov (Russian Марк Анатольевич Захаров; scientific transliteration Mark Anatol'evič Zaharov; born October 13, 1933, Moscow ) is a Russian film and theater director, and screenwriter. At the same time Mark Zakharov is a professor at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts ( GITIS ). He has held the title of People's Artist of the USSR.

Mark Sakharov's father was a soldier in the Red Army in the Russian Civil War, and his mother an actress. Sakharov grew up in Moscow and was supported by his parents in his stubborn attempts to become an actor. After several attempts, he was accepted and graduated from the drama school of the State Theatre Institute in 1955.

Sakharov presented a troupe of actors together who worked with him in Moscow Lenkom Theatre, including Yevgeny Leonov, Inna Churikova, Leonid Bronewoi, Oleg Jankowski, Alexander Abdulov, Nikolai Karatschenzow, Alexander Sbrujew, Alexandra Zakharova, Tatyana Kravchenko, Alexander Lazarev and Dmitri Pewzow. With these and other actors he turned also numerous feature films that gained national prominence.

Mark Zakharov heads the Moscow Lenkom Theatre since 1973 and coined at this time the theatrical landscape of Moscow decisively.
