Marko Kiprusoff

Marko Kristian Kiprusoff (* June 6, 1972 in Turku ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who, in the course of his career, including for the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League as well as for TPS Turku in the SM- liiga in position the defense played. His younger brother, Miikka Kiprusoff is also professional hockey player and plays as a goalkeeper in the National Hockey League.

Career

Kiprusoff began his career in the 1990/91 season with Finnish club TPS Turku. While the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 he was selected by the leaders of the Montreal Canadiens in the third round to 70th position overall. The links Sagittarius remained, after a brief interlude during the 1991/92 season in the league rivals HPK Hämeenlinna to 1995 TPS Turku. He then moved into the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens, the him but first duties of the former farm team, the Fredericton Canadiens. Nevertheless, he completed 24 NHL games in which he was able to achieve four assists. Since he could not prevail in the NHL with the Canadiens, he returned to Europe and then back to Malmö Redhawks closed in itself, which at that time were active in the highest Swedish league, the Elitserien. There, the learned defender stayed for two years and was at that time the most successful defensive players in the team. In 100 games in which he was used, he scored 51 points scorer.

After he refused a contract extension he signed in the summer of 1998, a contract with his hometown club TPS Turku. There he was able to increase his points haul again and thus attracted the interest of several clubs in other top European leagues up. Thus, it was the management of the Kloten Flyers of the Swiss National League A, which was able to convince him of a commitment and transferred to the 2000/01 season in Switzerland. During the following season, he spent again at the HC TPS Turku, he got a contract offer from the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. Kiprusoff opted for a change and hence went for the Islanders onto the ice. There, the then 29 -year-old could not prevail again and was frequently in the squad of the farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. In the end, he completed 27 games for the New York Islanders, where he was able to achieve six assists and four penalty minutes cashed.

His contract was not renewed at the end of the season 2001 /02 and so he moved to the Kloten Flyers, where he had already played between 2000 and 2001. For the Flyers, he was two years under contract and then returned in the summer of 2004 to TPS Turku, where he was active until 2009.

In April 2010, he finished his playing career came in January 2011, however, the ice again returned and completed a match for the Finnish club Kuusamo Pallokarhut before he was two weeks later committed by the Budapest Stars.
