Marko Šuler (2009)

Marko Šuler ( born March 9, 1983 in Slovenj Gradec ) is a Slovenian football player. The defender, who made his debut in the Slovenian national team in 2008, won with ND Gorica twice the Slovenian national champion.

Sports career

Šuler began playing football at Partizan Slovenj Gradec. About the SAK Klagenfurt and FC Kärnten 2002 he moved to NK Dravograd. For the club from northern Slovenia, he ran on in the second Slovenska Nogometna League and quickly established himself as a regular player, reaching the 2004 Cup final team against NK Maribor. After a 0-4 defeat in the first leg they missed winning the title despite a 4-3 second-leg success.

Šuler left in the summer of the club and moved to the Slovenska Nogometna League to ND Gorica. On the side of Valter Birsa, Aleš Puš, Admir Krsic and Saša RANIC he helped as a regular player for the championship win. Winning the doubles he missed with the team until the cup final, when audience Celje prevailed with a goal by Vladislav Lungu with a 1-0 victory. In the following season he was top scorer alongside Miran Burgič furthermore a guarantee for a successful title defense in the championship. Although he never had as a runner-up in the 2006 /07 title hat-trick, he had also made ​​a name outside the country's borders.

During the winter break of the season 2007 /08 Šuler left his homeland to join the Belgian club KAA Gent. The performance of the defensive player honored coach Matjaž Kek, who first nominated him in the spring of 2008 for the national team. In March, he made ​​his debut during a 1-0 away success with a goal by Šišić Mirnes against the Hungarian national team in the qualifying match for the World Cup 2010 in the National Jersey. At season's end, he stood at the side of Miloš Marić, Bernd Thijs, Bryan Ruiz and Adékambi Olufadé with his club in the cup final, missed with a 2:3 defeat against RSC Anderlecht but his first title victory abroad. However, as a regular player, he ensured that the club qualified as a fourth table for the European Cup in the following year. In parallel he held the national team, with which he qualified for the World Cup 2010 finals in South Africa.

In the first half of the 2011/12 season he lost his place at KAA Gent. In the second half it was awarded to Israeli first division team Hapoel Tel Aviv, where he was a regular player and won the Israeli Cup.

For the 2012/13 season Šuler moved to the Polish first division club Legia Warsaw. With Legia he was 2013 Polish Champion and Polish Cup winner. However, since he at Legia Warsaw never make it past the reserve player, substitute Marko Šuler early 2014 back to Slovenia for NK Maribor.
