Markus Aspelmeyer

Markus Aspelmeyer ( born June 14, 1974 in Schongau ) is an Austrian physicist, loving and ERC Prize winner and professor at the University of Vienna.

Markus Aspelmeyer attended high school in Schongau until graduation in 1993. He studied philosophy in Munich until the Magister and physics. After receiving his doctorate in 2002 at Johann Peisl at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich with the work influence of external fields on the structure and interface morphology of thin ferroelectric films he worked as a post -doc at Anton Zeilinger at the University of Vienna. He accompanied Zeilinger when he moved to the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information ( IQOQI ) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and was there first junior, later Senior Scientist, where he worked on problems of quantum entanglement and quantum optics. Aspelmeyer received the 2007 Lieben Prize. After a START prize 2008 he received the prestigious 2009 ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grant of the ERC (European Research Council, ERC) and 2010 the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award. In 2009, he chose to do professorships at the University of Oxford, the University of Calgary and the University of Vienna chair at the University of Vienna and has been there ever since Professor of Quantum Information on the Nano Scale at the Faculty of Physics. Markus Aspelmeyer is head of a research group explores the quantum effects in nano-and micro - systems.
