Markus Baur ( born January 22, 1971 in Meersburg) is a former German handball player and since July 2007, handball coach (initially as player-manager ). The two-time handball player of the year (2000 and 2002) played on the position back center of the room.

Career

Baur was German national handball team since 1994. He made his international debut on 4 August 1994 in Balingen against the Moroccan national team. He celebrated his biggest success at the World Handball Championship in 2007, when he became World Champion with the German team. He was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for this triumph. In 228 international matches he scored 712 goals, of which 356 are seven meters for the German selection.

1993 Baur debuted in the Handball - Bundesliga for the SG Wallau mass home, where he remained until 1997. Then played one season (1997/ 98) for the TV Niederwürzbach. In 1998 he joined HSG Wetzlar, where he remained until 2001. During this time he developed under coach Velimir Petkovic in Wetzlar to guide players and one of the world's best playmaker (2000 first award for handball player of the year).

Between 2001 and 2007, played Baur TBV Lemgo, with whom he became German champion in 2003. In March 2007 it was announced that Markus Baur changes to the 2007/08 season to scout Winterthur. He should be there the next three years as player-coach worked, but in late October 2007 succeeded the TBV Lemgo, Baur from January 2008 to undertake a coach. Despite his work as a trainer in the club, he continued to play in the German national team. However, for the Beijing Olympic Games, he canceled his participation in May 2008.

On January 7, 2009, his farewell match was held at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart. A compiled by him All- Star team competed against the German national team. He was adopted by a standing ovation of 6,800 spectators in the player retires.

After failing to qualify for the Champions League 2009 Markus Baur was released on September 9, 2009 as a trainer in Lemgo. He was then on the December 2, 2010 Head Coach of the East Westphalian Handball Bundesliga TuS Nettelstedt - Luebbecke. On 28 December 2011, the club announced that Markus Baur not renew his expiring at the end of the season 2011/12 contract. The decision was purely personal reasons, Baur confirmed in a radio interview Westfalica.

Since 1 July 2012, Markus Baur junior coach at the DHB. In addition, he has been training since July 2013, the cadets Schaffhausen.

Markus Baur is married to Marion, has a daughter and two sons and lives in Mimmenhausen, partial town of Salem.

For RTL, he worked for the TV broadcasts of the World Cup 2009 as a commentator and an expert. Since the fall of 2010, Baur has worked as an expert for the sports channel Sport 1.
