Life

Briers father worked as a teacher at a business college, the Markus Brier later graduated, his mother was traveling as a tour guide between Austria and Italy before umsattelte on beautician.

His parents took him and his three older brothers at an early (1976 ) on the golf course of the GC Vienna Freudenau with where he was taught by Ossi garden Maier. In those years, golf was still a fringe sport in Austria.

After attending the Academy of Commerce Brier studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics, graduated with a master's degree from 1995 and dared the leap into the professional game. The first year on the Challenge Tour and the Tour School were tough and quite destitute. His fourth season in 1999, could be the last of his career - instead, it was his last on the Challenge Tour. With four podiums he managed third place in the year-end standings for the first time and earned a tour card for the European Tour.

A great success was achieved Brier in 2004 at the prestigious WGC - World Cup in Seville, when he was able to achieve a 5th place for Austria with his partner Martin Wiegele. After the first day the two were even in the lead.

The Austrian Open 2006, the Austrians got off to a dream start, scoring on the first day on hole 11 a hole-in -one, won for a car, and took in a sovereign manner - after each tournament in the lead - his first title on the large Tour. At the end of the 2006 season Brier reached 49th place in the European Tour Order of Merit, his best result until then. Even his second title, the Volvo China Open 2007, he won by a large margin. He decided that season with a 32nd place in the money list ( European Tour Order of Merit ) and was best German golfer.

Brier has set a goal to get into the European Ryder Cup squad, which is the traditional duel Europe against the United States. The convening of the Continental European selection at the Seve Trophy 2007 was his high point so far in that direction. With three out of five possible points Brier was one of the best of the field.

The end of 2012, he missed the first time in 13 years to qualify for the European Tour. In November 2013 he announced his temporary withdrawal from the professional tournament scene.

Markus Brier is married to his wife Sabine since 1998. The two have a son (* 1999, Constantin ) and a daughter (* 2006 Felipa ) and living in Vienna.
