Markus Eberle

Markus Eberle ( born February 2, 1969 in Riezlern ) is a former Austro- German ski racer and current coach. He was specialized in the technical disciplines slalom and giant slalom, was for several years to the best German in these disciplines and was six -time German champion.

Career

Eberle has started skiing at the age of two years. When pupils celebrated race of the Vorarlberg from the Kleinwalsertal first successes and in 1983 Austrian student champion in slalom. In the next few years he began to participate in FIS races and later European Cup races and was included in the squad of the Austrian Ski Federation. The first major successes celebrated Eberle in the European Cup in the 1990/91 season. He was equal on points with the German Tobias Barnerssoi overall winner and fifth in the giant slalom standings.

After his European Cup successes Eberle started from the 1991/92 season at the Alpine Skiing World Cup. His first points he brought on 17 December 1991 with rank 18 in the slalom at Madonna di Campiglio, but this was his only season result. In the 1992/93 season, he came three times in the points, but was then thrown back by a cruciate ligament injury.

In 1993, Eberle with the German Ski Association and reached on 5 December 1993 at the slalom in Stoneham once more the points. After a long dry spell began with many failures. Three years later, he succeeded in slalom at Park City on November 24, 1996 again a World Cup result. In January 1997, he came into the slalom in Kitzbuehel and Schladming for the first time in the top ten and finished third in World Cup slalom twelfth place, his best result in this discipline. That same winter he took in Sestriere for the first time at a World Cup finals, but different in both the slalom and giant slalom in the first passage out.

In the 1997/98 season was his best result of seventh in the slalom in Kitzbühel, at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano in 1998 he fell in both contests from. At the beginning of the 1998/99 season Eberle achieved his best World Cup result ever: In the slalom in Park City on 22 November, he finished at the same time with the Norwegian Finn Christian Jagge fourth and missed the podium by only doing four hundredths of a second. At the World Championship 1999 he came to the 23rd place in the giant slalom, slalom, he could not finish again.

In the season 1999/2000 Eberle came four times into the top ten and reached fifth place in the giant slalom in Hinterstoder his second-best World Cup result. Slightly less good were his performances in the 2000/ 01 season, but at the World Championships in St. Anton succeeded him with the 14th place in the slalom his best result at major events.

In the seasons 2001 /02 and 2002/ 03 Eberle started only in slalom, but did not reach the top ten results more. Neither at the Olympic Winter Games in 2002 nor in the 2003 World Cup he could finish the slalom run, so he scored in nine appearances at major events, only two results. After a rather disappointing season Eberle was in August 2003, announced his resignation from January to March 2004, but he still took part in some FIS races. After his playing career, he has worked as a trainer.
