Markus Foser

Markus Foser ( born January 31, 1968 in Balzers ) is a former Liechtenstein skier.

Foser denied in March 1992 his first race in the World Cup. After seven races, where he could never better place than rank 24, he succeeded on 17 December 1993 at the downhill skiing in Val Gardena one of the biggest surprises in the history of the World Cup. Benefiting from start number 66 ran Foser best time and outclassed his opponents. The reason for this was that with the progress of the race came out the sun behind the Sasso Lungo and especially the upper part of the track was faster through the sunlight.

With his victory, he is next to Marco Buechel of Liechtenstein only World Cup downhill winner. In subsequent years, it was no longer possible Foser to repeat this surprise victory. Only twice he could be placed even in the top ten. After the 1996/97 season, he ended his skiing career.

In 1994 he was elected to Liechtenstein Sportsman of the Year.
