Markus Gier

Markus Gier ( born January 1, 1970 in St. Gallen ) is a former Swiss rower who was in the 1990s, Olympic champion and world champion along with his brother Michael.

The World Rowing Championships 1989 Markus greed won with the Swiss quadruple sculls silver in the lightweight class. In 1992, he fought with his brother bronze in the double sculls. 1993 received two silver behind the Australians Gary Lynagh and Bruce Hick. After Bronze 1994 1995 succeeded the yaw brothers in Tampere winning the World Championship title. The greatest success of Markus and Michael greed erruderten at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. They won with three seconds ahead of the boat from the Netherlands and to the Australians. In 1998 they won the bronze again at the World Championships. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, the brothers reached the fifth place.

Markus greed started for the Seeclub Rorschach. He is an electrician by profession.
