Markus Granlund

Markus Granlund (* April 16, 1993 in Oulu ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since 2013 in the Calgary Flames under contract and playing in parallel for the Abbotsford Heat in the American Hockey League. His older brother Mikael is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Markus Granlund began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Kiekko - laser, in which he was active until 2008. From there he moved for one year to the juniors of city neighbors Kärpät Oulu, before the capital club HIFK Helsinki joined. For the first team HIFK he gave in the 2010/11 season his debut in the SM- liiga, where he remained point and impunity in two games. In addition, he was the Players out on loan in six games for the Finnish U20 national team in Mestis, the Finnish second division, on the ice, where he scored three goals and three assists.

Subsequently, he was first in the KHL Junior Draft in the first round than a total of 24 players of Salavat Yulaev Ufa and finally selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the second round than a total of 45 players from the Calgary Flames.

In April 2013 Granlund received an NHL entry-level contract by the Flames and was used by them from the beginning of the 2013/14 season with the Abbotsford Heat in the American Hockey League. In February 2014 he made his debut for the Flames in the NHL.

Internationally

For Finland Granlund took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2010 and 2011. At the 2010 U18 World Cup he won with his team the bronze medal in the tournament a year later he was team captain.
