Markus Gygax

Markus Gygax ( born April 30, 1950 in Solothurn ) is a retired Swiss professional officer ( Lieutenant General ).

Biography

Gygax completed a commercial apprenticeship and was from 1974 to 1983 member of the Patrouille Suisse. In 1978 he completed a dogfight flight instructor training in the United States. In 1990, he was allotted for a year staff officer of the chief operations of the Air Force and in 1994 commander of an air regiment. In addition, he was head of the introduction of the F/A-18 in the Swiss army. In 1998 he was promoted to Brigadier and became commander of the Air Brigade. In 2003 he became Major General and Chief of Operations and Deputy Commander of the Swiss Air Force and from 2004 chief use and Deputy Commander of the Swiss Air Force. On 21 June 2008, he was interim commander of the Swiss Air Force and from 1 March 2009 he was officially appointed commander of the Swiss Air Force. On 31 December 2012, he gave up his post at Aldo Schellenberg and retired.
