Markus Pröll

Markus Pröll ( born August 28, 1979 in the Rhine river ) is a former German football goalkeeper. He played for the 1st FC Cologne Eintracht Frankfurt and Panionios Athens. In 2011 he ended his career and has since been working as a player consultant.

Career

Club career

1 FC Köln

As of the 1st FC Cologne in 1998 relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, pulled the just 19 -year-old Pröll on into the professional squad and could even take over the course of the first round, the performances on the gate from the previous goalkeeper and his later coach of Eintracht Frankfurt Andreas Menger. As a result, he was called several times in the U-21 national team. He could now ascended to the club in the Bundesliga, hold the position in the goal of his club until the end of the 2000/01 season. The following season started on his previous substitute Alexander Bade as number one, but Pröll regained at the end of the first round his place. In the following year, again in League 2, bath initially was preferred to the Minister. As Pröll this season on the bench remained (only two appearances in the league) and the next season Stefan Wessels was committed as a new goalkeeper, Pröll moved in summer 2003 to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt

In the promotion season of Eintracht Frankfurt (2004/ 05) Pröll played a significant role, and was elected by the fans to Frankfurt for the season. Due to an injury he played, however, in the following season, not with, but Oka Nikolov moved into the goal.

In the season 2006/2007 coach Friedhelm glitter had him again determines the number 1 in front of Oka Nikolov. Of talk he made when he was able to hold three penalties in a row. He was then classified by kicker sports magazine as the best goalkeeper of the first round Bundesliga 2006/2007. This was also the fact that he had remained almost flawless in the first round in all three competitions (Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Cup) and thus largely responsible for the success of Eintracht Frankfurt.

The second half of the 2006/07 season he missed because doctors had a rib fracture is not recognized at first. Since the 2007/ 08 season Pröll was a member of the team committee. In the second half of the season 2007/ 08 he fell after a partial tear of the Syndesmosebandes of weeks. At the beginning of the season 2008/ 09 he lost after ankle surgery his place at Oka Nikolov. Since his injury on 14 Matchday Pröll was back in goal.

Markus Pröll has occasionally been used in friendlies concord as a striker. So he scored in the game against the Darmstadt district division SKG ( 9:2 ) in the summer of 2006 four goals.

Due to a shoulder injury after a fall Pröll was the entire first round 2009/10. Markus Pröll left Eintracht Frankfurt with his contract expires at the end of season 2009/10. At the last home game on May 1, 2010, he was adopted, to great applause of the fans.

Vereinslosigkeit

Pröll trained after his departure from Frankfurt with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. In December 2010, he completed a trial with Bundesliga 1 FC Cologne. There were sought for the second half of the season 2010/2011 a new goalkeeper after Faryd Mondragón had announced his move to Philadelphia Union. However, the club opted for the younger Michael Rensing.

Panionios Athens

After about half a year without a club Pröll signed in February 2011 at Panionios Athens, where he was the backup goalie behind the Austrian goalkeeper Jurgen Macho. The contract with the relegation-threatened Greek first division club running until the end of the season and was not renewed.

End of career

In summer 2011, Pröll acquired a license to player consultant and ended his active career in December of the same year. Pröll explained that the after-effects of previous injuries would prevent a return to its full potential, a continuation in the career necessary, lasting pain medication he would not do himself.

National

Pröll was six times in goal for the German U-21 national team.
