Markus Schiegl

Markus Schiegl ( born June 7, 1975 in Kufstein ) is a former Austrian luger.

Career

At the age of five, he began his career as a luger, first in single-seat and in the natural track and from 1985 in the Art Car, from 1989, he went with his cousin Tobias Schiegl in doubles on the artificial track. In 1993, Markus Schiegl the Matura. In the same year he started with his cousin with the start of the Luge World Cup.

Already in its first season in 1993/94 they reached together the second place in the overall World Cup ranking of the two-seater. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer both ended on the 10th place in the doubles rankings. In the same year they reached at the Luge Championships in Koenigssee the bronze medal. In the Luge World Cup in 1995 in Lillehammer both won the bronze medal with the team. At the World Cup the following year, both won in doubles for the first time the world title. In addition, they also won gold in the team competition. In the 1996/97 season, the duo reached the third place in the overall World Cup standings. In the following Luge World Cup 1997 in Igls both won again in a double well in a team competition gold medal. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano Schiegl missed with his cousin with a fourth place barely a medal.

Markus Schiegl won together with his cousin, a total of 14 times the Austrian National Championship title. Schiegl is a professional police officer. He now lives in Unterlangkampfen.
