Markus Weissenberger

Markus Weissenberger ( born March 8, 1975 in Lauterach, Austria ) is a former Austrian football player.

His two brothers Thomas and Philip were also active as a professional football player.

Association

Weissenberger started his career in FC Hard and later in Dornbirn. His first major club was a SV Spittal / Drau in Carinthia. In 1995 he came to his first professional club LASK Linz. With good performances he was able to inspire not only the Austrian team manager Otto Baric, but also talent scouts from Germany; In 1999, he signed a contract with Arminia Bielefeld.

His stay in Germany ended nine years later, at Eintracht Frankfurt. He played in Germany two years for the Arminia, three for TSV 1860 Munich and four for the harmony. 2008 White Berger returned to Austria and signed a contract until the end of the 2008/09 season when LASK Linz. In the course of the season the contract was extended for another year until the end of the 2009/10 season. On 12 May 2010 the LASK Linz announced not to renew the contract of Vorarlbergers for the upcoming season. The player then ended his professional career and is now working as player consultant.

In summer 2010, he moved to the Upper Austrian provincial division Union Pregarten.

National

In the Austrian national team Markus Weissenberger debuted on 18 August 1999 against Sweden. His only international goal he succeeded on 27 March 2002 against Slovakia. He belonged to the extended squad of the Austrians for the 2008 European Championship on home soil, but nominated by coach Josef Hickersberger the small Vorarlberg not because he had contracted in the last league match of the German Bundesliga with Eintracht tore a muscle and thus was not fit enough for Hickersberger, to help at the European Championships the team can.
