Marlene Neubauer-Woerner

Marlene Neubauer - Woerner ( born August 25, 1918 in Landshut, † January 1, 2010 Munich) was a German sculptor.

Life

In her childhood years Neubauer - Woerner first attended the seven-year seminar training school. In the years 1932-1936 she attended the public school of ceramics in Landshut, where she graduated at the age of not quite 18 years as a champion. The Frankfurt Art historian Albert Rapp (1888-1969) recognized early the talent of the young woman and promoted it in his capacity as Director of the Landshut museum after forces. After a brief period as a ceramic designer in Thuringia manufactories she applied in 1936 as the first woman with Josef Henselmann at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and began her studies of architectural sculpture despite resistors. In 1942, she joined as a master student to Richard Knecht.

Work

As a renowned architectural sculptor, she created after the war a large number of sculptures for public clients ( especially the city of Munich, the Bavarian state and church institutions ). Her main works include: The great angel front of the basilica in Ottobeuren, the girl on dolphin in Westbad Munich, the great Daphne in Munich and the flute player fountain in Traunreut. From its numerous fountains come in Bavarian cities; best known is the Ida Schumacher Fountain, a work in bronze and limestone, which was unveiled on September 23, 1977 at the Viktualienmarkt in Munich.

Honors and Memberships

In 1978 she received the Schwabing Art Prize; 1984 she was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit. The cities of Cologne, Vienna, Paris and Athens, they honored with medals. In 1987 she was admitted as a guest of honor at the Villa Massimo in Rome. In 2008 she was awarded the city of Munich in recognition of her life's work the medal " Munich is lit - the friends of Munich " in silver. She was a member of the artist group Secession in Munich, the exhibition jury she belonged in the years 1953 to 1985 since 1952. She was involved in the GEDOK for the interests of women in the arts. Marlene Neubauer - Woerner lived and worked until her death in Munich.

Exhibitions

Between 1949 and 1989 she exhibited regularly at the Haus der Kunst in Munich. In many solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, it was represented (eg solo exhibitions at the Munich Residence, in Landshut town hall, group exhibitions at the Musee d' Art Moderne in Paris, Palais Zappion in Athens, Palazzo Nazionale in Rome, Palais Palffy in Vienna). Since 2009, a number of her works is in their house in Munich- Freimann issued (gallery Neubauer ).
