Marlin Perkins

Marlin Perkins ( born March 28, 1905 in Carthage, Missouri, † June 14, 1986 in Clayton, Missouri) was an American zoologist and zoo director.

Life

Marlin Perkins ' career began at the St. Louis Zoo, where he worked as a curator at first as a laborer, from 1928. Later he joined as director of the zoo in Buffalo (1938-1944) and Chicago ( 1944-1962 ). From 1962 to 1970 he was Director of the zoo from St. Louis.

In 1960, he participated as a zoologist at Edmund Hillary's expedition to the Himalayas in part, to investigate evidence of the Yeti. He identified the alleged footprints of the Yeti as enlarged by melting snow footprints of small animals (eg foxes ).

From 1952 to 1957 he was a presenter on the TV series Zoo Parade. He achieved international fame through his television series The Land of Wild Animals ( Wild Kingdom ), which he chaired 1963-1985 and produced. The series was also called Mutual of Omaha 's Wild Kingdom known ( after the sponsor of the series, an insurance company based in Omaha ).
