Marmalade Boy
Marmalade Boy (Japaneseママレード·ボーイ, Mamarēdo BOI) is a manga series of Japanese illustrator Wataru Yoshizumi from 1992 to 1995. It was adapted into an anime television series, movie, book series and video game, and translated into several languages. The work is classified in the genres shōjo, drama, romance and comedy.
Content
Parents of high school student Miki Koishikawa (小 石川 光 希) meet on vacation in Hawaii, the family Matsuura. You fall in love with the partners of each other and so decide to Koishikawas and Matsuura, divorce and leave and to change partners, but doing all to pull together in a big house. Miki is horrified by her new stepbrother Yū Matsuura (松浦 游), however, it takes left. He is now also in Mikis class and is popular for its good looks and manners with the girls. Miki but he is annoyed again and again, so that they finally compares it with orange marmalade, which as it is superficially sweet but contains bitter piece.
Even her good friend Meiko Akizuki (秋月 茗 子) and good friend and tennis partner Ginta Suo (须 王 银 太) can hardly help Miki. When they finally get along better with Yū and slowly falls in love with him, Ginta gets jealous because he has long been secretly in love with Miki. Together with Arimi Suzuki (铃木 亜 梨 実), the ex-girlfriend of Yū who wants to have it for itself again, he tries to bring the two apart. But they give a relationship before each other and then fall in love really into each other. In addition to the two pairs have also Meiko and other students, as the student spokesman Satoshi Miwa (三轮 悟 史), struggling with all kinds of love problems.
Publication
The manga was first published by Edition 5/1992 up to 10/ 1995 single chapters in the magazine Ribon the publisher Shueisha. A second publication came in the form of eight anthologies.
In German all volumes of the series were published for the first time from May 2003 to January 2005 in Egmont Manga and Anime. A second edition appears as Perfect Edition in February 2013 in Tokyopop. The publisher brought the manga already out in English. Glénat published a French and a Dutch translation, Planeta DeAgostini and Grupo Editorial Vid Spanish and Planet Manga an Italian and a Portuguese version.
Adaptations
Anime television series
1994 produced the studio Toei Animation and directed by Akinori Yabe a 76- episode anime adaptation of the manga. The screenplay was written by Aya Matsui series, the episode of her screenplays, Genki Yoshimura, Masashi Noro and Yumi Kageyama, while Yoshihiko Umakoshi was responsible for the character design and Kunihiro Chida for the artistic direction. Since the adaptation of the plot of the original was ahead soon, new characters were introduced and stretched the plot.
The first broadcast took place from 31 March 1994 to 3 September 1995 with ABC instead. An English translation was shown by the transmitter Anime Selects, a Spanish broadcasted several times in Spain and Chile. Also in Italy, and the Philippines the anime was shown.

The music of the series was composed by Keiichi Oku. The biasing song Egao ni Aitai (笑顔に会いたい) comes from Rie Hamada and for the Broadcast were the title Suteki na Serenade (素敵 な 小夜曲(セレナーデ) ~ Serenade ) by Miho Fujiwara, Kareha Iro no Crescendo (枯れ葉 色 の クレッシェンド, ~ Kuresshendo ) by Yasuhiro Mizushima and Yoake no Etude (夜明け の エチュード, ~ used Echūdo ) by Yoko Ichikawa. Video game
Bandai in 1995 issued an adaptation of the manga as Ren'ai simulation for Game Boy and Super Famicom out.
A written by Yumi Kageyama version of Marmalade Boy as a light novel was published from July 1994 to March 1996 in the magazine Cobalt Bunko. Wataru Yoshizumi contributed the illustrations. In addition to the two manga artbooks have been published, Marmalade Boy: Koi no stylebook and Marmalade Boy: Yoshizumi Wataru Illust shū.
Movie
On 4 March 1995, the 23 minutes long short film Marmalade Boy came Eiga ( 「映 画」ママレード·ボーイ) in Japanese theaters. The film tells pre and post the television series. He has also produced by Toei Animation with director Akinori Yabe and translated into English, Spanish and Italian.
TV Series
A manga based on the TV series with 30 episodes was produced and published in 2002 in Taiwan. For the series entitled Júzǐjiāng Nanhai (Chinese橘子 酱 男孩) the plot of the manga, however, was a significant change and many figures do not occur here.
Reception
According to the Encyclopedia Anime anime series was an unexpected success in Japan. The resulting longer duration of the series and elongation of the plot, however, lead to the fact that the initial unusual initial situation and the humor soon lose themselves in seemingly endless relationship dramas. The AnimaniA calls the manga " humorous, romantic and beautifully drawn ." He had been successful except in Japan and in the USA and Italy. Similar to a soap opera series is entertaining and can be addictive. The music is a bit cheesy, but fit so well with the anime.
