The Marmara Island ( Turkish Marmara Adası, Greek Prokonnisos Προκόννησος ) is a Turkish island in the Sea of ​​Marmara near the Dardanelles. The island belongs to the district of Marmara in the province of Balıkesir. The ancient Greek name " Proconnesos " is usually from Ancient Greek πρόξ prox - " deer " - derived.

She was known in antiquity for the degradation of white marble, which was used in many cities of Asia Minor. Especially in the early Byzantine period this marble was used throughout the Mediterranean.
