A few kilometers west begins the governorate of Tartus. The place is located in the southern foothills of Jebel Aansariye just before the hill country beyond the Nahr al - Kabir, the Lebanese- Syrian border river, passes over into Lebanon Mountains.

Marmarita is probably the largest village in the Wadi Al- Nasarah ( "Valley of the Christians ") with a mainly Christian population. It is accessible in summer a popular destination and north of the Krak des Chevaliers ( Qal ʿ at al - Husn ) on a mountain road.

Since 1972 there in August, on the eve of the Assumption, a carnival parade. The tradition was introduced by emigrants in Brazil home vacationers who staged a parade of costumed donkeys. In the early 1980s they began to use cars and extend the train up in the near Kafrah. In 2000, a separate carnival was also held there and more villages have now taken over the idea.
