Marnoz

Marnoz is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Marnoz is located on 340 m above sea level. M., west of Salins- les- Bains and about 30 km southeast of the city of Dole (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, at the northern foot of Mont Begon, west of the valley of the brook Vache in a hollow of the Furieuse the foot of Mont Poupet.

The area of ​​4.87 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Marnoz, which extends to the foot of the Jura plateau. History

The territory of Marnoz was already inhabited during the Gallo- Roman period. In the Middle Ages Marnoz formed its own little rule. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The church in the hamlet of Saint -Michel has a rich interior, including statues from the 15th century and woodcarving. Of the secular buildings, the ruins of the Château de Saint -Michel and the seat of power should be mentioned Pillot.

Population

With 405 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Marnoz one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1891 362 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1960s again.
