Marostica
|
Marostica is a town with 13,894 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Vicenza, region Veneto. The area of the municipality covers 36 km ².
The place is because of the living chess game ( with actors in " medieval " costumes ) famous, which is organized every two years on the arcaded piazza of the town for several decades. It is reminiscent of a legendary, supposed to be transferred in 1454 to play the hand of the daughter of the lord of the castle. Worth seeing are the monumental Castello da Basso ( Castello Inferiore, 14th - 15th century) at this place, also the ruinous Castello Superiore on the rock above the town. In the parish church of S. Antonio Abate is the painting Paul preaches in Athens, a major work by Jacopo Bassano, 1574th
The neighboring municipalities are Bassano del Grappa, Conco, Lusiana, Mason Vicentino, Molvena, Nove, Pianezze, Salcedo ) and Schiavon.
Twinning
Marostica is twinned with São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, Japan and Tendō in Montigny -le- Bretonneux in France.
