Marquess of Milford Haven

Marquess of Milford Haven is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It is supported by the Mountbatten family.

The family seat was initially Lynden Manor, Holyport, Berkshire, and later Moyns Park in Bird Brook, Essex.

Award

The title was created in 1917 for the former First Sea Lord Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. Because of anti-German sentiment during World War I he had changed his name to Mountbatten and renounced his German titles of nobility. Three days later he received the title of Marquess of Milford Haven.

Subordinate title

Simultaneously with the Marquessat Mountbatten were awarded the title Earl of Medina and Viscount Alderney. These are also included in the Peerage of the United Kingdom and are managed by the respective Marquess as subordinate title.

The heir takes the courtesy title Earl of Medina.
