Marradi

Marradi ( Maré in the Romagnolo dialect ) is a Tuscan village with 3233 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The village has a medieval center.

Geography

The site covers about 154 km ². It is located about 90 km northeast of Florence on Lamone on the northern edge of the province of Florence and the Mugello to the border with Emilia -Romagna in the climatic classification of Italian communities in Zone E, ​​2267 GG.

Among the districts ( Frazioni ) include Campigno (616 meters altitude, about 15 inhabitants), Crespino del Limone (535 meters altitude, about 90 inhabitants), Lutirano ( 386 meters altitude, about 40 inhabitants), Popolano (276 meters altitude, about 270 inhabitants) and Sant'Adriano (260 m altitude, about 190 inhabitants).

History

The place was first inhabited by the Ligurians, Etruscans and Romans, who gave a first fortification of the place and called Castellum Marrato. Around the year 1000, the village belonged to the Papal States, and shortly thereafter the counts Guidi di Modigliana took over the rule in place, which in itself except for the exception from 1258 to 1260, when Florence first took over the place, but him after the battle of Montaperti again which was forced to cede Guidi, held in power until 1312.
