MARS Group

The Modern Architectural Research Group, MARS Group, was a existing from 1933 to 1957 in the United Kingdom architect company. It was founded by a number of prominent architects and architectural critics at the time of the rise of the International Style. It was created after several unsuccessful attempts, and should the modernist architects in the UK to strengthen, as the Union des Artistes Modernes it already did in France for the European continent.

The idea was Sigfried Giedion, of the English architecture critic Philip Morton Shand spoke on the Congrès International d' Architecture Moderne, Britain should be represented at the event by his own group. As the founding fathers apply in addition to the Shand Architects Wells Coates, Maxwell Fry and FRS Yorke. They were supported by the British architectural firm Tecton Group, including also included Ove Arup and John Betjeman.

The think tank published visionary ideas for urban planning and organized a series of exhibitions. At their wedding had the MARS Group from time to time about 120 members.
