The Marsa Alam International Airport ( IATA code RMF, ICAO code HEMA) is an Egyptian airport on the Red Sea. It is approximately 60 km in a straight line north- north-west of Marsa Alam. Marsa Alam is the first private airport in the country and was opened on 1 November 2001. The airport was of the " M. A. Kharafi Group of Kuwait " built to bring tourists comfortable in the nearby hotels and the dive southern Egypt on the Red Sea. This eliminates the previously usual hour-long bus ride ( up to 270 km ) and from Hurghada to the south.

Airlines and destinations

In the winter season 2012/13, the airport is expected to be operated by several airlines in the German-speaking countries, such as Air Berlin and EgyptAir (via Cairo ). Departures are scheduled from Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne -Bonn, Dusseldorf, Nuremberg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Berlin -Tegel, Zurich and from Salzburg and Vienna.

Location and facilities

The airport is isolated on a raised platform in the middle of the desert away from the nearest settlements (except the also belonged to Marsa Alam Port Ghalib small town ). He can not enter on foot from the coastal road from or to leave and has no public transport connection because of the high safety precautions. There is also no public or private taxis on site. Travelers should be aligned with your hotel arrange a pick-up; after each arrival of an airplane, passengers will therefore gathered at the output in groups and put into waiting buses. Within the airport there is the usual infrastructure of restaurants, telephones, toilets and debit card -enabled ATMs.
