Marshall Carter

Marshall Sylvester " Pat" Carter ( born September 16, 1909 in Fort Monroe, Virginia; † February 18, 1993 in Colorado Springs, Colorado) was an officer in the United States Army and from 1 June 1965 to July 31, 1969 Director of the U.S. secret National Security Agency ( NSA).

Life

Carter was born in 1909 in Virginia and graduated in 1936, after the United States Military Academy completed successfully, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Master of Science degree. Carter, now Lieutenant General, held on 3 April 1962 to 28 April 1965 as the successor of Charles P. Cabell the post of Deputy Director of the CIA, and also worked as a consultant to other time directed by the George C. Marshall U.S. Defense. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of President John F. Kennedy.

During his tenure at NSA, the hijacking of the USS Pueblo by North Korea and the attack on the USS Liberty occurred where Carter was of the opinion that it was the latter a deliberate action by the Israelis. After the end of his tenure at the NSA, he was president of the George C. Marshall Research Foundation. He stepped back from that post in 1985 and died in 1993, according to his family from cancer. Carter was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

In the movie " Thirteen Days ", which deals with the Cuban missile crisis, Carter is one of the traders and is portrayed by actor Ed Lauter.
