Marshall County (Indiana)

Marshall County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in Plymouth.

Geography

The County is located in northern Indiana, is just 50 km away from Michigan and has an area of 1165 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: St. Joseph County, Elkhart County, Kosciusko County, Fulton County, Pulaski County and Starke County.

History

Marshall County was formed on February 7, 1835 from parts of Elkhart County and St. Joseph County. It was named after John Marshall, a presiding judge of the Supreme Court ( Supreme Court ) of the United States.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Marshall County 45 128 people in 16,519 households and 12,191 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.53 percent White, 0.30 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 2.54 percent from other races groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.90 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 16,519 households out of which 35.8 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 61.3 percent were married couples living together, 8.3 percent were single mothers and 26.2 percent were non-families. 22.3 percent of all households and 10.0 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.15 persons.

28.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7 percent between 18 to 24, 28.0 percent between 25 and 44 years. 22.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 94.9 males.

The median income for a household was $ 42,581, and the median income for a family $ 48,527. Males have a median income of $ 33,999, women $ 22,482. The per capita income was $ 18,427. 4.8 percent of families and 6.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
