Marshall County (Oklahoma)
Marshall County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Madill.
Geography
The County is located in southern Oklahoma, bordering Texas and has an area of 1106 square kilometers, of which 145 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Johnston County, Bryan County, Grayson County ( Texas), Love County and Carter County.
History
Marshall County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Chickasaw country. It was named after William Raine Marshall, a governor and officer during the American Civil War.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Marshall County 13,184 people in 5,371 households and 3,802 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 77.99 percent White, 1.84 percent African American, 9.10 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.17 percent from other races groups; 4.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 8.60 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,371 households, 27.3 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.1 percent were married couples living together, 8.8 percent were single mothers. 29.2 percent were non-families, 26.4 percent of all households and 14.5 percent of households had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.87 persons.
23.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 to 24, 24.1 percent between 25 and 44, 25.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 19.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 males.
The median income for a household was $ 26,437, and the median income for a family was $ 31,825. Males had a median income of $ 25,201 versus $ 19,932 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,982. 13.5 percent of families and 17.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
