Marsili

The Marsili is the largest underwater volcano in Europe. It is located in the southern part of the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. The volcanic massif covers an area of about 2000 square kilometers. The foot of the volcano is located about 3000 meters and the summit about 500 meters below the water surface.

The volcano was named after the Italian scientist Luigi Ferdinando Marsili, after the volcano was discovered in the 1920s.

During an eruption of the volcano or landslides on its flanks is to be expected with the emergence of tsunamis. It is therefore constantly monitored using seismographs and magnetometers.
