Marske-by-the-Sea

Marske -by-the -Sea is a large village in East Cleveland in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, England. It is located on the coast between Redcar and Saltburn -by-the -Sea.

Marske is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The church of St Germain is located in Marske -by-the -sea, it was inaugurated by Bishop Ægelric 1042-1056.

The village has a museum, Winkies Castle, it is not a castle, but an old house. The house was formerly owned by the late Jack Anderson Schuster. It contains more than 6,000 pieces. The " Castle " has a web site and is open to the public.

Marske was punished with a fine of 20 marks, for his role in the looting of a Norwegian ship in the year 1180th

Marske was the hometown of Charlotte Hughes, the oldest woman who has ever lived in the UK.

Charles Dickens visited the village to visit the strange towers of Marske Hall and see the graves of Captain Cook's parents.
