Marta Eggerth

Marta Eggert ( Martha Eggert, actually Márta Eggert, born April 17, 1912 in Budapest, † December 26, 2013 in Rye, New York) was an Austro -Hungarian operetta singer and film actress, who lived in New York since 1938.

Life

Eggert was the daughter of the German bank director Paul Eggert and singer Tilly Herzog ( Herezegh ). After an early vocal training, a career as a musical prodigy and engagements in Vienna and Hamburg, she went to Berlin in 1930, where she performed in numerous operetta singer and film and a celebrated star.

During the filming of the movie My heart calls out to you got to know the Polish tenor Jan Kiepura. The two were considered the " dream couple " of the German and Austrian musical film of the thirties and married in 1936.
