Marta Suplicy

Marta Suplicy ( born March 18, 1945 in São Paulo, SP) is a Brazilian politician, the Workers Party ( Partido dos Trabalhadores ). She was from 2001 to 2004 Mayor of São Paulo, and has since September 13, 2012 Minister of Culture.

Life

Marta Teresa Smith de Vasconcelos, daughter of Luis Alfredo Smith de Vasconcelos was born on 18 March 1945 in São Paulo. Your wealthy parents allowed her a psychology training at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and a training at Stanford University, 1973. She married economics professor Eduardo Matarazzo Suplicy, but left after its election victory in 2001 divorced him ( she kept the well-known last name) and married Luis Favre.

Suplicy occurred early as an activist in appearance, they founded several non-profit organizations on issues such as women's rights, education and consumer protection. In the 80s, she hosted an enlightening TV show for women. Together with Clodovil Hernandes 1980, she hosted the broadcast TV Mulher.

A son from her, Eduardo Smith de Vasconcelos Suplicy, better known by the stage name Supla, is a Brazilian musician.
